"Sing"-ing with Lisa

G.G. Ferrin

So, in 2018, I was gifted with a book by Kieth and Kristyn Getty, titled Simply "Sing!" It was a WONDERFUL book, and I was moved by its message. It confirmed things I felt deep in my soul.

It promoted the importance singing. Singing is written into our human DNA, part of God's design, and commanded in the Scriptures. Throughout Scripture and history, God's people use the gift of song to praise the One who gave us this gift. It helps us learn and remember scripture and theology. Worship is a response to revelation of the gospel of grace. Singing facilitates worship and inspires deeper faith.

Chapter 5 promoted something that is near and dear to my heart: The importance of singing with family. Singing is one of the best ways to teach children, and we should start when they are young. All in all, the book resonated with me.

Later that year, I heard the Getty's were offering a Sing Conference in Nashville, that was also available to watch online. It was WONDERFUL! It happened to be on dates that Rick was away on a trip, so I sat by my computer and watched all I could for those days.

You cannot imagine my joy, when my daughter, finally reading the book a few months later, announced that she wanted to attend the Sing 2019 Conference with me!!!

We had a FANTASTIC time together! Along with staying in the beautiful Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center, and singing hymns with 13,000+ church musicians; we were able to hear many wonderful speakers, listen to and sing several numbers in Handel's "Messiah" along with the 1000 voice choir and live orchestra, witness a live recording of "Sing! An Irish Christmas" in the Grand Ole Opry House, attend a concert in the Rymer Auditorium, and then spend an extra day together experiencing restaurants, a city tour, and a wax museum.

It was an AMAZING experience!
