After a long journey, taking one step at a time, I have hit a milestone. I'm going public with my website, "flyingstartmusic.com" .
My help comes from the Lord--Psalm 121:2
When I feel over my head, and like I am hitting a wall, I go to God. With confidence, I know that if He has truly given me this purpose, it stands to reason that He will provide me with whatever I will need to take further steps to accomplish it.
He has provided so many influences already, one step at a time, to bring me where I am. Looking back, I can see where He was at work, even before I recognized His purpose. Here are some of the steps of my journey thus far.
From my first grade teacher telling my mom that when she needed the class to sing a song she would have me start it, and the class would sing with me
To singing a duet in church with Rick, when we were children
To years of piano lessons
To singing in a trio at church, when I was still young
To singing in the group "His People" during my high school years at Kings Academy
To singing in a singing group at my church called "His Image," also when I was in high school
To participating in a puppet team in children's church when I was in college
To recording scripts and leading a puppet team, as well as singing duets regularly in church after Rick and I were married. It was at THIS point that I had a desire to write a song. Specifically, a song about a little boy wanting to become a pilot, in honor of my husband and my son.
To singing duets with Rick many Sundays, as he led the music at a churches we attended in Pennsylvania, and later in Gainesville, FL.
To leading children's choirs for 20 years at Westside Baptist Church, Gainesville, FL; and First Baptist Church, Orlando. It was somewhere along this point, that I desired to write a children's musical
To working with the great Children's Choir Coordinator, Lois Ann Roberts, as well as in the FBC/O music office in general, for 20 years, Over this time, I got to work with music greats like Ragan Vandegriff, Derric Johnson, Terry Winch, Ken Varner, Teresa McFadden, Ken Clifton, Jeff Lawrence, Mike Haight, Jon Territo, Tom Rau, Bob Franklin, Tommy Byrd, Julian Bond, Jon Marks, Robert Elkins. I was also blessed to work alongside such great artists as Tim Kaufman, Debbie Johnson, Jay Leach, Tiffany Coburn, Lori Jean Smith and others
To singing in the choir at FBC/O and actually being president of the adult choir for 4 years, singing in trios, and in special events (such as the Southern Baptist Convention, and as back-up to Lee Greenwood at FBC/O and Sea World)
To re-writing the script of the Children's Musical "Roaming Through Romans" to better suit FBC/O.
To writing a script for a Christmas Presentation for Spanish River Christian School in South Florida
To working in Summer Music Camp at FBC/O and Music Week at Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church
To singing in the choir, arranging several trio numbers with Rick, and then singing them with Rick and Mark at PVSBC
To being introduced to, and participating in several Composer Symposiums (See related blog posts)
To working with Steve Rogers, whom I meet through Tim & Alicia Kaufman. Steve directed the lay out my music studio, assists me with my musical programs and recording equipment, writes many of my piano accompaniments and played some guitar tracks for some of my songs. In the future, Steve is interested in having me record my niece Addison singing some scratch vocals for some of the his music, and he is encouraging me to audition a Children's Choir that we can use to record some children's choir numbers, both his and mine. We will also be pursuing co-writing some music together.
To being asked to be the Music Director for the Cedartown Preforming Arts Center's production of Frozen Jr. (See photos and read more about it in my "Frozen Jr." blog)
To friend and 'relative' John Adams living in Georgia, and being able to help set up my recording studio (See photos and read more about it in my "Music Studio Upgrades" blog.)
To adapt a musical for PVSBC to have a ’train’ theme (which included writing a song to be included in the musical.) This experience also showed me how to publish my music into music book form.
All of these steps, small and large, have brought me on quite a journey. I'm excited to continue past these milestones into the future, following where my Savior leads, depending on His guidance and His help.
